Isle of Dawn

Liuli is my Disciple.

So I started a few alts so that I could revisit Isle of Dawn. The first time I played here, I was in a hurry to leave so I didn't get to really enjoy it. And it's an awesome place. It really is a lot of fun. You level really fast and there's lots to see and do. The max level for the island is 10, I believe. But once you've reached your max adventuring level, there is diplomacy, harvesting and crafting you can do. Or you can mix it all in and do it at the same time. If you plan to do any harvesting or crafting, I highly suggest starting here. It's just easier and you'll be glad you did once you're out in the "real" world of Telon.

Selling raw resources that you harvest is a great way to make some coin. Selling items that you craft is another good way to increase your in-game income. In my opinion, it's just a good idea to work on these two skills. Quests and looting only provide you with a very small amount of coin. If you want to buy any armor, weapons, mounts, or other in-game items, you're going to need a lot more than they provide. My main is lvl 46 and I get paid 15 silver for a quest. That's really not enough to upgrade ANY of your gear. In comparison, I can sell a stack of ore that took me 20-30 minutes to mine, for nearly a gold, depending on what type it is. With some of the more rare ores, you can get 1-3 gold for just ONE of them. Or you can trade with other players, if there's something you need. A lot of players are willing to make whatever armor or weapons you need, free of charge, as long as you provide the materials (mats). So again, just a good idea to work on your harvesting and/or crafting skills.

One of the most prized possesions from Isle of Dawn is the Bracelet of Lucky Charms. I wasn't able to get it the first time around, so hopefully I can get it this time. It just adds a certain % to the rate at which you gain experience in several different spheres. And it increases as you lvl.
Another fun item I'm after is Slappy's Whistle. You can use it to call Slappy and he'll dance for you in order to make sure you're entertained. Completely useless, but fun.

While you're killing mobs, you may loot a magical cookie. In the swamps by the hermit's shack, there's a fairy that flies around, named Tenby. You target her and right-click the cookie in your bag. There's some dialogue and she eats the cookie and becomes this big, hairy monster and you have to kill her. I'll try to post some screenshots since my DSC just got a cookie last night. My bard already fought her but I forgot to take pix. Apparently there's a chance that she will drop some cool stuff when killed. My bard didn't really get anything awesome off of her.

So if you're finding yourself a little bored with VG, I highly suggest starting an alt and spending time on the Isle of Dawn. I'm having a blast.

My lil bard, Cithara

Resetting Allocation Points

Today we decided to reset our allocation points and redistribute them. I really needed too b/c when I first started, i didn't know where to put them and ended up wasting a lot in useless stats. Anyway, it was kinda hard to find the info out there on where to go to do this.
It's the Adventuring Assigner and i don't know where else he may be, but there is one in Khal. In the Port Watch Barracks. He does it for free the first time and charges each time after that.

PoA update

well apparently the PoA quest line has been turned off. Something about turning it into a raid zone. yay. i really wanted that cloak. and it will be months before i can raid. sigh. oh well. i'll just find something else to do.

Vanguard frustration

One of the most frustrating things about this game is the lack of info out there. I feel like a retard half the time for not being able to figure this crap out. But with games like EQ and EQII there was always tons of info out there on the net.
But not for Vanguard. For example, we were wanting to check out the PoA quest line. But can't figure out where to start it and who it starts with. It's ridiculous. There are some posts talking about various quests. but no one says who to find to start the quests and where the NPC is located. I could ask in ooc, sure. but that most often results in smart ass responses instead of useful info.
One more reason i wanted to do this blog. to try and put info out there for other players. unfortunatly i don't always have the time it takes to keep it updated.
When i figure this out, i'll be sure to update for the next player wanting to start PoA.

The Summoning

I think that's what it's called. anyway, today we finished up that part of the CIS line of quests. You go into this area where these cultists are performing some ceremony and you jack up their alter. It screws everything up and this giant golem comes to life and kills them all while you watch. It is very important that you don't get involved here and you WAIT until it becomes a spirit form before talking to it. We ran up when all the cultists were dead and my group member said "talk to her!". I clicked on the giant stone beast and was promptly slaughtered. Thank god I was with a cleric who rezzed me.

Randolph

Oh yea. one more. LOL
I have to say that Randolph is the COOLEST thing VG has done in a while. I always love the whole frostfell season, etc. But Randolph is SO MUCH cooler than candy that transforms you and stuff. I'm sure it really gets under the skin of long time, hardcore players to see all these newbs on a blazing fast mount, but i love it. If it weren't for Randolph, the shadowhound quest would have taken FOREVER!! I will CRY when he goes away!! THANK YOU DEVS!!!

Shadowhound mount

Photobucket

Woo!! So I finally got a cool ass shadowhound mount. It was a bitch of a quest. Not difficult, just looong. Hundreds of mobs to kill. 30 here 40 there 35 here etc etc etc. But it was fun. and I love the shadowhound. Most of the info we followed was found here.

This is us taking out the final guy before you get the collar for the mount (you still have to go back to the original quest guy and buy a saddle before you can actually use the mount). Anyway, when you get to this point, you just focus on killing off Nerail and ignore the hounds. They despawn as soon as he is dead. Uhm. yea anyway. I'd post more, but yea, another quest awaits...
